Packaging Corporation of America Achieves Sustainable Forestry Initiative Certification

June 7, 2007

LAKE FOREST, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2007--Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) has achieved Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI(R)) certification for its primary mills and its network of corrugated combining plants. PCA has been a supporter of the SFI(R) program since its inception in 1994. This SFI(R) certification further demonstrates PCA's commitment to sustainable forestry principles and practices.

"The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI(R)) and these certifications are important elements in providing environmentally responsible packaging to our customers," commented Paul T. Stecko, Chairman and CEO, Packaging Corporation of America.

The Sustainable Forestry Initiative program is a comprehensive system of principles, objectives, and performance measures developed by professional foresters, conservationists, and scientists, among others, that combine the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the long-term protection of wildlife, plants, soil, and water. For additional information, go to http://www.sfiprogram.org.

This independent, third-party certification authorizes PCA to use the SFI(R) on-product label. This label signifies that at least two-thirds of PCA's packaging raw material originates from mills with SFI(R)-certified wood fiber procurement systems or recycled paper sources. PCA exceeds this standard with 95% of our packaging plants' raw materials coming from procurement systems certified to the SFI(R) standard.

PCA is the sixth largest producer of containerboard and corrugated packaging products in the United States with sales of $2.2 billion in 2006. PCA operates four paper mills and 68 corrugated product plants in 26 states across the country.
